Life’s passion kindly shared
Love was created,
Yet still compared.
Every turn of the chisel,
His soul expressed
Without her youth’s dismissal.
But of all the marble had reflected,
Never once,
Was the rose selected

French Club Reports
The new French Club has started organizing events this year pertaining to various aspects of French Culture. Their first event war a trip to “The Fondue Room” for some French Cuisine. It was quite a success! There was an excellent turnout between the French classes and parents who attended. The French club officers were recognized and everyone had fun eating cheese and chocolate fondue. The club would like to thank “The Fondue Room” for donating a gift certificate; Jacquie Blom was the lucky student who won!
The next event will be the Noël party on December 14th held at “Audrey Loves Coffee” in St. Clair Shores. Stay tuned for photos of club members enjoying the Christmas lights on Lakeshore Drive.
In addition, the French classes recently toured the Auguste Rodin/Camille Claudel exhibit at the DIA. They started out with a hearty breakfast in Eastern Market. Most students also went “candy shopping” at the Rocky Peanut Company. The statues by Rodin and Claudel were phenomenal! Tenth grade student Lyndsay Donnellon was inspired by the sculptures to write the following poem:
“Fateful Encounter: Does his heart lie in the marble?”

2005 French Club DIA Trip

To continue their journey, Ms. Benedic’s French classes moved to the Detroit Institute of Art, the DIA. The current exhibit was Rodin and Claudel: Fateful Encounters. As the class traveled through the exhibit, they heard the audio story behind the art. While observing the art, they were also educated in the tragic love story between Claudel and Rodin. The vast museum held different forms of art to be admired, such as Diego Rivera’s Mural about the car industry in Detroit and Pointillism by Georges Seurat.

2005 French Trip to ‘Audrey Loves Coffee’ in St. Clair Shores
French I Reporter, Autumn Cleverly
We went to ‘Audrey Loves Coffee’ in St. Clair Shores. After some really good coffee or cappuccino and pizza, we all got in the limo. Well, the limo wasn’t just a limo, it was a bus! Inside the bus there was a flat screen T.V., leather seats and flashing disco lights. When we got to the Christmas lights on Lakeshore Drive, we got out and went for a closer look and took photos. The lights were really cool. Everywhere you looked, there were lights!
